‘Deliveries of coal arriving by water’

A narrow boat hire company in Worcester has chosen a novel way to have its orders of coal delivered.

Instead of having the fuel transported by van, Viking Afloat at Lowesmoor Wharf now receives its consignment by boat.

Marina Manager Darren Mather said “we are having 100 bags of coal, each weighing 25kg, delivered by boat so we can be more environmentally friendly. It does cost a fraction more to do it this way, but the end price for the consumer will still be the same.”

The coal is sold on to passing narrow boat owners who use it for heating their floating homes.
